Standards (e.g. of voluntary certification) only set the goals of responsible forest management, but never prescribe the ways to achieve them. This, in particular, means that each environmentally and socially sound company, each certificate holder, can choose their own way to achieve. The ways are different, some are more effective, others are less, some are suitable for large enterprises, while others are applicable only under certain landscape conditions No one has the right to push the enterprises to achieve the responsible forest management resuts under a certain frame. However, a description of examples of sustainable forest management practices performed by timber companies can help others to find the way that suits them also. WWF Russia and its partners are implementing a project to promote sustainable forest management practices. The idea is to disseminate information on sustainable forest management cases by timber companies, which may be useful and (or) interesting to other ones.
